It's all about you...

Our financial planning process is about getting to know you. The “real you!” It’s about your hopes and dreams.
It’s about those questions you ask yourself and the worries that keep you awake at night:

We get asked these questions daily and we tackle them with a robust and proven planning process to give you the financial clarity you desire.

By combining human empathy with our state-of-the-art methodology, we are able to break things down into a set of clear goals and, most importantly, then put it all together in a financial plan.

SatNav denoting a well constructed financial plan

A well-constructed financial plan is your SatNav. It's the guidance system that looks for the best route to get you to your destination. It will offer you alternative routes to avoid the roadblocks and let you know if you go off course. Finally, if you fancy a change in direction, you just need to review and update. Once you have one, you wonder why you didn't get one sooner!

Car engine denoting the investments being the power behind your financial plan

Your investments are your engine. You need these to get moving and the performance you require will depend on your journey and desired arrival time. A high-powered engine can deliver fantastic performance but can easily break down from time to time. A safe and reliable one may be less risky but if it can't get you up the hill, it's not right for you either!

Car garage denoting financial planning ongoing service

The service station resembles the ongoing review. It’s important that everything is checked regularly to make sure you are on course and that everything is working as it should be. Do we need more fuel?... to change a few parts?... or can you afford to put your foot down a bit more?

Car chassis denoting open relationship that holds everything together in financial planning

An open and trusted relationship between you and your adviser is represented by the chassis. It holds everything together and without it, everything falls apart.

Car Fuel denoting money and assets being the input to the vehicle of your financial plan

Money and Assets are your fuel. Without investing and putting in the fuel you are not going to get very far. It’s also important you take the time to calculate how much you need to cover the distance of your journey. If you burn it too fast you will run out before you get there, don’t use enough and you will arrive late with excess in the tank.

Car wheels denoting the financial products being the mechanism by which your financial plan moves forward

Your financial products are your wheels. They are the part of the vehicle that sets the car in the right direction. Whether it be ISA’s, Pensions or general investments they can be changed to navigate different tax terrains whilst following your planned journey.

Engagement Discovery Research Plan Recommend Implement Review

The first part of the planning process is usually a relaxed meeting to get to know each other. We'll identify your primary goals and fully explain how our service works. After a few days we will send you a summary of the meeting and a proposal for you to consider.

Step Two of our planning process is where we'll dig deeper. We'll talk about your worries, goals, desired lifestyle and ambitions. We will also look to understand your current financial position, assets, liabilities, income and expenditure.

Step Three of our planning process will take us a good few weeks as, during this stage, we'll work through a series of steps in order to highlight possible solutions, review any existing plans, explore tax efficiency and assess your attitude towards financial risk.

Step Four of our planning process is where we use our analysis to create your bespoke plan. Once finished, we will invite you in for a further meeting.

Step Five of our planning process is where we talk you through the plan, explain how we have come to the recommendations and discuss how these helpyou meet your goals.

Step Six of our planning process is where, providing you understand and are happy with the advice, we will get to work putting the plan in place.

Once the plan is in place, our ongoing Wealth Management makes sure you stay on track and that your plan is reviewed regularly.

Understanding Investing?

Investment (noun) – The act of putting money into something offering potential profitable returns.

An integral part of your financial plan will involve investing your assets in the right place so that you can reach your goals.

It’s easy to think your Financial Planner is a ‘hero’ if the returns are good; and a ‘villain’ if they go down. While we are very proud of our own track record, the truth is that no-one can control or predict the markets. No one should pretend to have this super-human power! Risk and Return are related, and we can assure you that there is no magic formula for low risk, high return investing.

In any case, it’s not important what return you receive in any one given year. What is important is that the money is working for you consistently over a period of many years; and that you are on course to live the life you want.

The investment mechanism is a very important piece of the jigsaw and one that deserves its own methodology, as it plays a significant role in the success or failure of peoples’ financial lives.

We believe it’s vital to put in place a repeatable and comprehensive planning process in order to build robust portfolios that make sure you are highly diversified, whilst also aiming to deliver superior risk-adjusted returns.

Please Note: You should remember that the value of an investment, and any income from it, could go down as well as up. The return at the end of the investment period is not guaranteed and you may get back less than you originally invested.

Our Method. An exact science.

How we do what we do...

Our method

Our process planning approach makes us stand out from the crowd because it leverages the efficiency of cutting-edge technology with the oversight of experienced analysts to deliver both quantitative and qualitative analysis.

Once implemented, each portfolio undergoes continuous monitoring between review points, to make sure it continues to provide the best possible returns for its level of risk.

Step One

Taking the rubbish

Taking the rubbish out

We cover all corners of the market and so have many instruments at our disposal. Step One of our planning process is to whittle the list down using a series of rating systems that identify the best funds, the best managers, outstanding groups and investments that inspire long term confidence.

This allows us to create an independent directory free from traditional biases. The list is then validated by an experienced analyst team who independently research each fund.

Step Two

Setting risk targets & asset allocation…

Setting risk targets & asset allocation

Each Portfolio is given its own volatility target and in addition will have an asset allocation overlaid, using research provided by independent actuaries.

These measurements integrate with our risk profiling tools and this process ensures our investors are always exposed to the appropriate amount of risk for their personal situation.

Step Three

Once we have our select list and risk targets, we go about running specialist optimisation technology which uses defined targets to construct the most efficient portfolios.

Even working from the select list, there are over 10 trillion possible combinations and the optimiser is designed to find a shortcut to the one that offers maximum diversification.

Step Four

Constructing the masterpiece…

Constructing the masterpiece...

Once the optimiser has identified the most diverse portfolio for each risk level and time horizon, additional scenario analysis is conducted to ensure the portfolio behaves as it should do in a wide variety of market conditions.

When finalised, the portfolio composition is reviewed and approved by way of an investment committee.

Step Five

Ongoing review & governance…

Ongoing review and governance...

A governance tool monitors all the funds continuously in relation to risk, performance, behaviour, and structure. Any major issues can be immediately flagged and investigated by an analyst.

All portfolios undergo re-optimisation every 6 months to ensure they are meeting their risk targets and changes are made if necessary. In addition fund replacements are recommended when the systems dictate.

We greatly value our independent status and, as such, when selecting your investments, we only work with market leading actuaries, investment data businesses and performance analysis providers.
